Raising Aspirations: Local Employers Inspire Sudell’s Young Learner

Future archaeologists, scientists, engineers and filmmakers were all under one roof at Darwen Aldridge Sudell Primary school yesterday - and you could feel the buzz the moment you walked through the door!
Aldridge Education Connect partnered with Sudell staff and an inspiring network of local employers to create a careers day filled with hands-on experiences designed to spark ambition and broaden horizons.
Our youngest learners were immersed in a world of possibilities. They stepped into the shoes of archaeologists, carefully digging through sand pits for fossils, became scientists by extracting DNA from strawberries, and took on the role of Trading Standards officers to spot counterfeit goods. Others organised a birthday party on a budget to explore accountancy with PM+M; learned about climate action through recycling challenges with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council; produced short films with the help of our Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio students; built paper airplanes with BAE Systems, and even tried out some of the latest British Army kit! A really big thank you to all of the above, and to CoolKit Ltd, and whY-us? Marketing for their fantastic input and stall too.
With dedicated sessions for both Key Stage 1 and 2, the school was a real hive of activity from start to finish. Every activity was designed to spark curiosity and help children see the vast range of careers that could one day be within their reach - many of which they may never have encountered before.
The enthusiasm from learners, employers and colleagues alike was incredible. Experiences like this truly bring learning to life, helping young people connect classroom learning with the real world, while reinforcing our Aldridge commitment to leave no one behind.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible. Together, we are opening doors, raising aspirations and showing our learners that their future is full of opportunity.
